ECOLE SJF HIGH SCHOOL ABORIGINAL DREAMCATCHERS CLUB 2010
Would you like to be part of an exciting group working towards attending the Dreamcatchers Conference in Oct. 2010? This opportunity for Metis, Inuit and Aboriginal youth is a once in a lifetime chance to work and have fun with students while sharing cultural and day-to-day life experiences. If interested there will be an organizational meeting to be held Nov. 23rd at 11:40am-right after period 2 in the Student Leadership Room.
BLISS LAKE TRAPPER TRAINING CAMP
Aboriginal students who are interested in attending the Bliss Lake Trapper Training Camp are asked to see Mrs. Cleary. Dates for the camp are Jan. 11-15, 2010 or Feb. 14-19, 2010.

DANCE AT THE ELKS
Friday November 21st, the John Howard Society is holding a dance for all ages at the Elks. The cost is $7 each. For more information you may contact Rick Alexander at 873-2864 or email rickalexander@theedge.ca.
CALM HOURS
Please see Ms. Bowden if you are interested in earning CALM hours by assisting with the Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Program. We are looking for students who can work in pairs for one-hour shifts on Saturday, Nov. 28th at Canadian Tire or Walmart. See Ms. Bowden before the end of this week to sign up!
Need CALM hours? If you have good public relation skills and are in need of CALM HOURS, come and see Mr. Skauge.

POTENTIAL GRADUATING STUDENTS
Have you picked up your validation statement from your guidance counselor yet? If you have not picked it up, please see your counselor ASAP!!
SR. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL PIZZA PARTY
There will be a pizza party on Thursday November 19th at 11:30 in room13 for all girls that played for the SJF Senior volleyball team. We will also use this opportunity to sign the banners. See you there!
YOGA CLUB
Yoga club will be on Wednesday, November 18th from 3:45-4:50pm at the top of the school. All are welcome!!! Come in comfy clothes and be ready to de-stress and relax!
SENIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL PIZZA AND BANNER SIGNING
All senior boy’s volleyball players are invited to a pizza lunch and banner signing party. It will take place on Thursday Nov. 19th in Miss Johnson’s room (31) over the lunch hour. Hope to see you all there!
BADMINTON
Students interested in playing school badminton are invited to come out after school on Mondays and Wednesdays 3:45-5:00pm. Mr. Skauge will coordinate this event. First badminton practise is Monday, November 16th at 3:45. Hope to see you there!
Students interested in playing badminton at intramurals in the next month may share the gym with the basketball players. See the teacher supervisor at intramurals for more details.
Check out the gym schedule that is posted on the school sports bulletin board outlining when school badminton and basketball teams will practise in the weeks ahead. If you have any questions, see Burly in his gym office.
BASKETBALL
Any students interested in playing senior boys basketball for Sir John should attend the first practise of the year on Wednesday, Nov. 18th at 5:10pm in the gym…. See Burly for further information.
Male players who are 15 & under as of Dec. 31st of 2009 and interested in playing school basketball are asked to attend the first Sir John boys practise of the season on Thursday at 3:45 to 5:00pm. See Burly if you need more information otherwise I will see you on the court and ready for action…
Students interested in assisting in coaching school basketball this year are to see Burly ASAP. Once we have teacher supervision in place we can start up the school basketball program…hopefully soon.
HOCKEY
All Sir John male hockey players who are planning to go to the Hay River High School Hockey Championships on Dec. 4th-6th must get a permission forms into Burly no later than Friday (Nov. 20th) of this week.
IPY YOUTH TIME CAPSULE WRITING CONTEST
Youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who are interested in submitting an entry to the writing contest, are asked to submit a one-page piece of writing, in any format (prose, poetry, etc.). Entries will be accepted in any language that is currently spoken in the North. Deadline is Dec. 31st, 09. You can submit entries by email to ipy.timecapsule@gmail.com or by mail to P.O. COLD WEATHER POLICY
Ecole Sir John administration reminds staff and students that the cold weather has arrived for another season. Students, please use common sense when dressing for the weather. If you are unable to dress for the cold, for whatever reason, please talk to any adult in the school so they can make sure you get home safely.
SPEND A WEEK ON PARLIAMENT HILL
Forum is a bilingual, nonpartisan and AMAZING program to develop leadership and to learn about parliament democracy, how government works and how your students can make a difference in shaping Canada’s future. Students participate in one of four 5 day sessions. Application forms are available for the Spring 2010 session at www.forum.ca. Space is limited.

BE A FOOD RESEARCHER
Would you like to go somewhere for March Break? Apply to “Be a Food Researcher” program that is scheduled for March Break 2010 in 1 of 15 participating university laboratories across Canada. Deadline is December 4th, 09. The program is aimed at First Nations, Inuit and Metis students in Grade 11 and 12 with an aptitude in science or social science and an interest in the field of food science and nutrition. For more information, please see Mrs. Cleary in Student Services.
