Math Dept.
The teachers of the Math Department attended an in-service facilitated by Peter Maguire, Instructional Coordinator for YK Education District #1. They were led through a series of activities using “Geometer’s Sketchpad”, a computer program which can be used to illustrate, model and enhance instruction in a number of mathematical areas, including, but not limited to, geometry, algebra and coordinate geometry.
Class of ‘09
With a group of 84 Grade 12 students, Mindee Naismith, Greg Skauge, Wendy Campeau and Cynthia Roach, ventured out to the Capitol Theatre for a special screening of the newest James Bond movie - Quantum of Solace - for the Class of 2009. This year, the grad council has planned fun monthly activities for all grade 12’s to participate in, to help foster unity and create a sense of camaraderie. The event was well attended, and has received much positive feedback.
International Polar Year Forum
A number of SJF students were able to take part in the NWT International Polar Year Youth Forum at the museum, thanks to teacher coordinators Erin Sproule and Landon Kowalzik.
Website In-service
The rest of the SJF staff spent Friday afternoon learning how to use the FirstClass system to prepare their own personalized webpages. These can be viewed by choosing “Staff” from the navigation bar at the top of the SJF website, then following the link on any teacher’s page.
