Sir John’s Very Own Torchbearers!!
Two of Sir John Franklin High School’s students have been chosen to take part in the Olympic Torch Relay on Thursday, November 5th. Â Jeanne Yurris and Shaun Thagard were both chosen through the program called Sogo Active, sponsored by Coca-Cola.
Shaun recalls how he entered the competition and how he found out he was one of the torchbearers.  “My mom asked my sister and I if we’d be interested in entering a contest she heard about through Sport North.  She told us that through the SoGo Active promotion, sponsored by Coke, some of the Olympic torchbearers would be chosen. During the contest we entered the amount of physical activity I took part in. We did this on the SoGo Active website. While we were in PEI for the Canada Summer Games we received a message that I had made the short list from which torchbearers were chosen. To be one of 12,000 people across Canada that will carry a torch is an honour.”
Come and cheer on your fellow Falcons! Â Jeanne will be carrying the torch from Weaver Drive to Bryson Drive on 50th Avenue, and Shaun will be carrying the torch starting on 51A Avenue from house 5501 to 57th Street.
Congratulations to both Jeanne and Shaun for having an active life and being chosen to represent Yellowknife during the Olympic Torch Relay!
