École Sir John Franklin High School is a learner-centered school offering a wide selection of courses designed for and responsive to students' needs. The school is Dedicated to Excellence of mind, body and spirit. We offer exploration in the academics, arts, athletics and applied learnings. We nurture healthy choices through early morning and after-school fitness and wellness programs. Alternate times for learning are provided through such programs as after-school art and music, Sunday drama, evening Skills Clubs in Culinary Arts, Auto and Web Design, and Night School which runs 4 evenings per week. For students destined for the workplace, there are school-to-work transition as well as apprenticeship program opportunities. All students registered at Sir John can choose from rich variety of co-curricular programs and clubs.

Today will start with an assembly at 8:30 followed by timetable pickup. The periods will resume as follows:
9:45- 10:50- period 1
11:00- 12:05- period 2
12:05- 1:05- lunch
1:05- 2:10- period 3
2:20- 3:30- period 4

NEED SCIENCE HELP?
Come to Science tutorials! Every Wednesday, two science teachers will be available in the Science Theatre from 3:45-4:15pm for extra help. This is addition to regular help sessions that your Science teachers offer in their classrooms. As the semester goes on we may add extra sessions depending on demand, especially as we get closer to those exams. This is a drop in service for students, whether your teacher is there or not there will be a science teacher available to help you! Sessions start on September 15th!

2011 CANADA WINTER GAMES & WESTERN CANADA SUMMER GAMES BADMINTON TRYOUTS
Tryouts will be held Sept. 25th- 26th 2010 at St. Pat’s High School. Times will be Saturday 9:00am- 4:00pm and Sunday 9:00am- 3:00pm. To register, forms are abailable from the NWT Badminton website, www.nwtbadminton.ca. Deadline is Friday Sept. 17th, 2010.

OFFICE HOURS
Our office is now open. If you would like to book an appointment with a counselor, or have any questions, please contact us at 669-0773, email sjf@yk1.nt.ca or drop by. The office will be open from 8:00am- 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. The guidance counselors will be in as of Monday August 23rd, 2010. The first day of school is Wednesday, September 1st.

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE 2009/2010 SCHOOL YEAR

MCDONALD’S MONDAYS
Do you want to learn how to play golf? If you are between the ages of 11- 18, the McDonalds Restaurant and the Yellowknife Golf Club are offering golf, clubs and lessons at no charge. It will be held July 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, Aug. 9th and 16th from 9:30am- 2:00pm. For more information please call the pro-shop at 873-4326.

PARTICIPATE IN NATION BUILDING
Up to 175 NWT Aboriginal youth from ages 16-35 are invited to apply for the aboriginal youth economic development workshop to be held in Dettah, Aug 8th-14th. This is an opportunity to share your vision for the future of the NWT with the Premier. Application forms are available from Rebecca Plotner. Email Rebecca@detoncho.comor phone 867-873-6533. Deadline is July 15th, 2010.

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER
Except for exams that is!! Please make sure you check out the exam schedule on the school website.
The last day of school is June 29th at noon. There will be an assembly in the morning at 10:00am followed by the handing out of report cards. The main office will be closed as of July 6th at noon.
The school will open on August 18th. Student services will be opened on August 23rd. First day of school will be September 1st at 8:30am.

HAVE A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE SUMMER
During the summer all student files saved on the school’s computer network will be erased. If students have files that they want to keep they need to transfer them off the network before school is out. Students can use USB keys, or burn the files onto a CD or DVD.
